Letters
From Arthur Vidro:
Issue 125 was enjoyable. Some of the stories were good, especially “Blessed are the Faithful,” and “Work Ethics.” One or two of the stories left me in doubt as to whether they were stories at all, but maybe I’m just too old-fashioned.
In the nonfiction arena, I give a hearty ap-plause to “The Dashing Dash,”–a punctuation mark I have often been accused of overusing.
Sandy’s “Market News” has spurred me, for the first time, to make a submission to one of the listed publications. Let us keep our fingers crossed…

From Joan Tobin :
I would give Issue 126 a ‘10’ except for two problems:
        1.  It would have been good to have an
             “About the Author” paragraph about
James Brearton. There was plenty of
space.  Is he Timothy James Brearton
              (Google)?
        2.  Frustration. Sandy thanked Ralph
Sabelhaus for Calliope’s website. So I
checked the issue to find the name of the
website and couldn’t find it. Is it there
             somewhere?

I did find the web address through Google and agree with Sandy’s “great job”praise about the site. Ditto her praise for your editorship. Wishing you and Calliope a Happy New Year!

From Martha McLoughlin:
I enjoyed reading “Coffee Break” in the Winter issue, where Cynthia mentions the benefits of Zen meditation in reducing stress. One stress reducer that works for me involves meditating on the idea that loved ones who are no longer geographically present are often spiritually present with us. When my miniature schnauzer, Pistol, was terminally ill in 2003, I’d borrow books about St. Francis of Assisi from the library, and I’d sit on the bed with Pistol and read stories to her about St. Francis’ rapport with animals. On January 15, 2008, I dreamed about Pistol and me sitting on the bed while I read to her. In the dream, Pistol had a youthful, vigorous body, like she had when I adopted her in 1998. It’s very relaxing to know that Pistol is nearby in spirit, even though she’s not visibly present.
